Roman Villa of Els Munts

Only 500 metres from the hotel, following the Vía Augusta, you can enjoy the amazing Roman Villa of Els Munts, the ancient residence of a high-ranking official of the local Roman administration. It is considered one of Hispania’s most important architectural complexes.

UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site in the year 2000 along with the many other Roman sites of Tarraco. Its unbeatable location, on a privileged hilltop facing the sea, makes it a required visit for anyone exploring Altafulla.

If you’re travelling with your family, make sure you don’t miss the dramatised visits to the Villa, where its ancient hosts, Caius and Faustina, welcome you to their abode and tell you all about life in ancient times.

Vila Closa and the Castle of Montserrat

The town’s origin dates back to the 11th century, when it was part of the southern end of the County of Barcelona. The ancient urban centre boasts a perfectly preserved structure, that of Vila Closa, where visitors can discover astonishing cobblestoned streets and buildings dating back more than 300 years. Over the streets looms the Castle of Montserrat, an age-old triangular fortification from which one can see the entire Baix Gaià. It is part of the fascinating trail connecting all the castles of Gaià. Vila Closa was declared a historical-artistic architectural complex by the Government of Catalonia in 1998. Guided tours are available.

Tarragona (Tarraco)

There is a wide range of things to discover in Tarraco: the praetorium, the circus, the forum, the walls, the Devil’s Bridge (out of town), the impressive amphitheatre and more. They will all take you back to Roman times in what used to be the main winter base of the Roman army in Hispania.

This is a city brimming with culture, perfect for enjoying the month of May with the Tarraco Viva Festival, which comprises several days of historic and cultural events with more than 400 performances including gladiator fights in the amphitheatre.

Tarragona is a city facing the sea with pleasant weather, perfect for enjoying a stroll along the Rambla Nova and the Mediterranean Balcony, having a snack and a vermouth on Plaça de la Font, visiting the wonderful bell tower of the majestic cathedral or trying a good rice-based dish in Serrallo, the city’s seaside neighbourhood. Recommended for couples, families and friends, Tarragona can be enjoyed the whole year round.

The Cistercian Trail

Created in 1989, this wonderful trial connects Catalonia’s three monasteries of the Cistercian order: Vallbona de les Monges (Urgell), Poblet (Conca del Barberà) and Santes Creus (Alt Camp).

The Royal Monastery of Santes Creus was erected in 1160 and remains in perfect condition to this day. In 1921 it was declared a site of National Interest. It is the only one of the three monasteries where there is currently no monastic life, which means visitors can explore its every last corner. It is considered one of the gems of mediaeval art in Catalonia.

The Royal Monastery of Poblet was founded in 1150. It is one of the most important monastic complexes in Europe and the one with the most inhabitants at present. It was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1991. Enjoy its unforgettable guided tours with your family.

The Monastery of Vallbona was founded in the 12th century. It is the smallest of the three monasteries and also the most feminine. It was declared a Cultural Good of National Interest.
